How a bird crosses continents?

Syd Barret, founding member of the band Pink Floyd, during his psychedelic years asked a pertinent question about colours: ‘have you seen roses? There is a whole lot of colours’

Whenever I listen to Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar of Gwalior Gharana of the Hindustani tradition, I too experience different colours in ‘rose’, many Gharanas within. He crosses borders of Gharanas like a playful bird wings over boundaries. But this morning I was listening to a Bhupali of Pt. Gajanan Joshi (1911-1987), Ulhas Ji’s guru. As many of you know, he only introduced violin into Hindustani music in the western part of India. But besides being a trendsetter in violin, Pt. Jajanan Joshi was an illustrious vocalist…master of Bhava and Laya in raga exposition. Please listen to this track (40 minutes); you can see how convincingly and artistically he travels through many sub-continents of Indian Gharanas.

I assure you, it’s amazing.
